Overview

On this 2-centre Adventure guests will have the opportunity to see both Saariselka and the Wilderness Hotel Muotka. Spending the first 4 nights at either the Gielas Hotel or Holiday Club Hotel in Saariselka. Here you will have a couple of included activities, additionally this is also a great chance to try your hand at skiing. Following your stay in the lovely traditional resort of Saariselka you will be transferred to Muotka Wilderness Lodge. A loving family-run property set in a secluded snow-laden winter wonderland. Its idyllic location, on the edge of the pristine Urho-Kekkonen National Park, guarantees minimal light pollution and therefore an increased potential for seeing the Northern Lights. Here you will have the opportunity to try all the included daytime and evening excursions in the example itinerary below, as well as relaxing in this stress-free environment.

Please note that you will receive your personal itinerary for each part of your two centre holiday on arrival in Saariselk� and Muotka, which may differ from the days and timings in the example below.

Sunday: Arrive at Gielas Hotel or Holiday Club Hotel in Saariselk�

Your Inghams rep will welcome you at Kittil� Airport. After the scenic drive to Saariselk�, check-in to your chosen hotel and collect your thermal clothing.



Monday: Optional Skiing & Welcome Meeting

Guests who have pre-booked an optional Learn To Cross-Country or Downhill Ski package will start lessons this morning. Learning to cross country ski will also enhance your stay at Muotka later in the week. Of course, other activities are available and your Inghams rep will provide details and your holiday schedule at the welcome meeting.



Tuesday: Optional Skiing & Aurora Snowmobile

After a morning of optional skiing or snowshoeing, an exhilarating snowmobile safari is included - choose either afternoon or in the evening searching for the Northern Lights.



Wednesday: S�mi Farm & Reindeer Safari

Enjoy optional skiing or other activities in the morning, before a fascinating visit to a S�mi reindeer farm including a short sleigh ride.



Thursday: Husky Safari, Transfer to Muotka & Optional Aurora Cabin Overnight

After a morning at leisure, you�ll enjoy a memorable visit to a husky farm including a 7km safari, before your transfer to Wilderness Hotel Muotka in the early evening (approx. 20 mins). You�ll meet the guides on arrival and collect your thermal clothing and Aurora Alert. Then after dinner, you'll have the option to upgrade to spend a memorable night in a semi-glass roofed 'Aurora Cabin' from just �99 per person.



Friday: Snowshoe, Cross-Country & Evening Aurora Hunt

A guided 3 hour morning snowshoe trek, followed after lunch by a 2-3 hour guided cross-country ski trip with tuition, are included. After dinner, you'll head out in search of Northern Lights by car (driven by guide).



Saturday: Optional Activities & Aurora Camp by Snowmobile-pulled Sled

Enjoy a sauna or join an optional excursion (payable locally). Then for your last night, one last trip into the wilderness with a visit to the Aurora Camp by snowmobile-pulled sled to look for the Northern Lights.



Sunday: Scenic transfer & flight home

Depart after breakfast for your flight back to the UK.

Holiday Club Spa Hotel

Located right in the heart of Saariselkä, this popular spa hotel offers a high standard of accommodation and an impressive range of facilities, including a fabulous indoor pool complex. The resort ski bus conveniently stops just outside. The property's main attraction is its extensive indoor swimming pool and sauna complex, with waterslide, massage jets and children's pool. The hotel's public areas including restaurant and pool area have been newly renovated.

  • Standard Twin Room (A4), sleeping 2 - 4 people with 2 twin beds and sofa, which can be turned into a double sofa bed for full occupancy. All facilities as above

  • Single Room (C1+D1) is a sole occupancy of a small twin room. Available at no supplement for the first one single room booked on each arrival date. A supplement applies to additional single occupancy rooms

Hotel Tunturi - Gielas Wing

The luxury Gielas Hotel offers highly recommended deluxe rooms and junior suites, which are located in the deluxe wing of the Tunturi Hotel. The Gielas building offers it's own fireside lounge, bar and a la carte restaurant. The whole property enjoys a peaceful setting, just 250m from the village centre and a few steps to the cross-country ski tracks. The Tunturi main building, with the main reception and restaurant, is a wonderfully atmospheric hotel with cosy wood-panelled public areas and good food. Tunturi Hotel is only 100m from the Gielas and the ski bus stops outside.

All rooms are located in the Gielas Wing of the Hotel Tunturi, approx. 100m from the main building.


Rooms

All of the deluxe Gielas Hotel rooms have a balcony, free Wi-Fi, drying closest, safe, bath, sauna, shower, WC, flat screen TV (pay movies), telephone, mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge and a hair dryer. Gielas Hotel guests have breakfast in their own hotel and take dinner in the main building of the Tunturi Hotel.


Superior Twin Room (C4), sleeping 2-4 people. Having twin beds, and 2 single sofa beds for 3-4 person occupancy.


Deluxe Twin Room, sleeping 2-4 people, include a private sauna, hairdryer, television, coffee/tea/cocoa set, kettle, refrigerator and free WiFi.

Muotka Wilderness Lodge

Muotka Wilderness Lodge is a lovingly renovated family-run property set in a secluded snow-laden winter wonderland, 15km from Saariselkä village. Its idyllic location, on the edge of the pristine Urho-Kekkonen National Park, guarantees minimal light pollution and an increased potential for seeing the Northern Lights, simply by stepping outside the Lodge's front door.

The Lodge radiates an atmosphere of warmth and relaxation from the moment you arrive. The reception building has a restaurant with open fireplace, small lounge and bar and we really rate the buffet food here. The Lodge sauna has separate times for men and women, and is also bookable for private use (payable locally). There is also an outdoor fireplace, shelter and Sámi kota hut.

We have included a full range of daytime arctic activities, including carefully selected husky, reindeer and snowmobile safaris. You can also enjoy these special surroundings by snowshoe or cross-country skis on a network of over 300km of prepared trails. In the evenings we've included aurora hunts where Muotka's expert Guides will take you in search of the Northern Lights by minibus, snowmobile or snowmobile-pulled sled.

As well as the activities listed, Christmas Week also includes gingerbread baking, tree decorating and a visit from Santa with a small gift for all the children on Christmas Eve.

New Year Week also includes a bonfire, midnight fireworks and a glass of sparkling wine on New Year's Eve. There are festive dinners on both dates including Lappish specialties.

The Lodge owners, Jouko and Mari, and their very friendly staff, have years of expertise in arranging holidays in locations that are specifically designed to provide guests with the best possible opportunities for witnessing the Northern Lights.

The accommodation choices in the Muotka Wilderness lodge include:


Wilderness Rooms sleep two people and are located in the main reception building or in a separate building just a few steps away. All are tastefully decorated in a cosy Nordic style and have shower, WC and hairdryer. Beds can be made up as either a double or twins. These rooms are also available for sole occupancy.


Superior Sauna Suites sleep two to four people and are located in a separate building. Spacious pine-clad one room suites with double bed, private sauna, and lounge area. Suites can accommodate 2 extra beds for children


Panorama Log Cabins sleep two to four people in highly recommended spacious detached log cabins with double bed, private sauna, fireplace, lounge area, kitchenette and panoramic windows. These Cabins can accommodate 2 extra beds for children


Aurora Cabins sleep two to four people. In a quiet location away from the main buildings these amazing one room cabins can be pre-booked for one night during your stay. All have large panoramic north-facing semi-glass roofs with views of the night sky from your bed, private sauna, shower, WC, fridge, hairdryer, coffee/tea-maker. Some have a sofa which converts to 2 single child beds. These rooms are available on request, as are single occupancy Aurora Cabins, please give our Reservations team a call to book.
